Dr. Bertozzi talks about the fascinating story behind her
participation on the UCLA team that developed a “predictive policing” computer program that zeros-in on areas that have the highest
probability of crime. She also discusses the use of mathematics in studying gang crimes and other criminal activities .
Commercial use of the "predictive-policing" program allows communities to put police officers in the right place at the right time,
stopping crime before it happens.
Andrea Bertozzi is an applied mathematician with expertise in nonlinear partial differential equations and fluid dynamics. She also works in the areas of geometric methods for image processing, crime modeling and analysis, and swarming/cooperative dynamics.
