As people discuss the changes that computers make and how technology will affect humanity, they tend to forget a key agent. Professor Martyn Thomas believes that its time to focus on the industry itself and examine how it works. Ideally, this arena could mature into an engineering discipline that is able to learn from its errors.
Martyn Thomas is an internationally recognised expert in software engineering who holds visiting professorships at three top Universities including the University of Oxford. Beyond his academic posts, Professor Thomas is often called upon to be an expert witness and also to advise Parliament on cyber security matters. Gresham College is proud to have Professor Thomas as our first IT Livery Company Professor of Information Technology:

Professor Thomas will deliver the six lectures of the newest Professorship over the 2015-16 Academic year. The series will examine the place off computing in modern society, and what we should hope will be its future. From pressing issues like cyber security threats to possible futures with driverless cars and intense automation, this series is hugely important and focuses on issues that affect the entire world.
