The John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design hosted engineer Urban Ziegler on January 24, 2013 as part of the Building, Ecology, Science and Technology (B.E.S.T.) Lecture Series. Urban T. Ziegler, M.Sc., P.Eng., Chief Engineer, RETScreen International, Natural Resources Canada, is an expert in district energy systems design and implementation. A graduate of Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden, Urban Ziegler has specialized training in the area of district energy systems combined with extensive hands-on experience. Sustainable community design is increasingly turning to district energy systems that are supplemented with renewable energy sources as a means of reducing operating costs and carbon footprint. A large number of new communities and campuses across Canada are exploring the possibilities of district energy systems and the fundamental considerations impacting building and urban design are explored in his lecture. Urban Ziegler also shares his insights regarding the challenges and opportunities associated with district energy systems in the Canadian context. Lecture series proudly sponsored by Tremco Roofing and Building Maintenance. For more information about the John H.
