In this friendly discourse, David Friedman and Robert Murphy will compare and contrast the different principles and methods of the Chicago and Austrian schools of economics -- and their impact on ethics and other social sciences.
David Director Friedman is the son of Milton Friedman and Rose Director, both intellectual giants of the Chicago School, based at the University of Chicago Dept of Economics. David also received his PhD at the University of Chicago -- but in Physics. He does not purport to be a macroeconomist, but has made major contributions to economic thought nonetheless.
Robert Murphy is a scholar at the Ludwig von Mises Institute and a well-known proponent of the Austrian School of economics, based on the work of Austrian thinkers including Mises, Carl Menger, and Friedrich Hayek. He received his PhD in economics from New York University and now works as a professional economic consultant.
