Things to take you might not have already thought of?
Extension Cables, Lamps, Slippers, Stuff for hobbies like sporting equipment etc and things that make you feel like your at home!
Did you join any societies/clubs?
Yes, Backstage (Who did the lighting and sound at organised university events and stuff like that), Orchestra, Computer Science and Video Games! Though I didn't really go to any of the things that put on - so no.
Advice for freshers fairs and stuff?
Get everything you can carry!
Best way to meet people?
Talk to people in your flat and at societies and in lectures as much as possible! Get as many contacts as you can, you can never know too many people!
Opinions on going out getting drunk, (media perception is bad)
I don't like it, and I don't like how it is portrayed as the only way to make friends etc. Just be who you want to be, if you don't like something don't be bullied into doing it!
Advice for freshers?
Make the most of your first year, yes it means nothing. But learn how to attack second year - figure out what you did this year so you can improve and excel in the second!
Do you regret anything about your first year?
I regret not having as much fun as I could have had. I was very work focused. But then I don't regret working so hard... so swings and roundabouts ;)
How do you balance your time?
Very little sleep! I go to all lectures and seminars, have a job, socialise on a semi regular basis, run 3 youtube channels, do more coursework then is needed throughout the year and don't think I'm busy enough so I just started a company. www.bltzsoftware.com check it out ;) It's all about good routines!
How many hours do you sleep per night?
between 4-6 on a daily basis!
How much did you budget on food each week?
£50 a week, I think any more and you could save money somewhere! and you don't even need to spend this much to be honest with you!
Money Saving Tips?
It's cheaper to buy/cook for 4 people then for 1 person 4 times. Buy in bulk and then cook in bulk to make food last!
Would you recommend getting a job in the first year?
I would, but only if you can handle the stress. I wish I didn't have to go to work but I do. If you can handle the hours without your grades taking a hit then do it! And it's better to get your nose in now before the hard work hits in 2nd and 3rd year!
Do you cook for yourself and what meals do you eat?
Yes, usually curry, chili, nachos, pizza, ready meals, pork chops, lamb steaks and sausages and stuff like that. I eat quite expensive food because I refuse to eat crap at university!
How do you stay healthy?
I don't eat crap ;)
How do you feel about the amount of debt you'll be in at the end?
I feel like it is relatively easy to pay back- and that it is necessary for what I need. I need this degree so it's a cost that would have had to come! I was planning for it for years!
Would you recommend University?
Yes! But only if it is the best option. Don't let the money stop you doing what you want to do. The experience is worth it only if you are going to use what it gives you, the degree. Else it is a lot of money if an appreticeship could get you equally far!
