Sir Ian McKellen CBE is an Oscar nominated and Golden Globe winning actor. He is known for his outstanding contributions to theatre and film, for which he was knighted in 1991. On stage has played Macbeth and King Lear amongst many other roles, and is a Tony award winner. Sir Ian is a prominent advocate of LGBT rights and was a founding member of Stonewall. More recently he has become internationally known for his performances in the "X-men" franchise and "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. He was made a Companion of Honour for his services to drama and equality in 2008 and is currently working on the film adaptation of "The Hobbit".
