2015 is the year of the 161st Oxford and Cambridge boat race, now named the BNC Mellon Boat Race. The big news this year is that for the first time in its 87 year history, the women’s race, now the Newton Women’s Boat Race, will be rowed on the same course as the men’s, not tucked away out of sight at Henley. Christine Wilson, the Oxford Women’s coach, spoke to The Chiswick Calendar when she was in Chiswick to give a presentation for the Chiswick Pier Trust. She described the preparations they make and the challenges they face on the Tideway. The Oxford and Cambridge women's race between Putney bridge and Chiswick bridge is at 4.50pm, the men’s at 5.50 on Saturday 11 April.
