First we choose a side to begin to simplify. It is a good idea to choose the side that is the "most complicated" or that has the most operations such as division and adding and subtracting. We then look to simplify our side by applying operations, combining like terms, removing binomial denominators, and factoring. Next we look to using trigonometric identities to help us simplify our expression. If we get stuck we can begin to work on the other side of the equation to see if there is common ground to be made.
