Sign up for a Free Japanese Course http://tinyurl.com/ovsdmcz Is there a free program to learn Japanese? Im looking to learn Japanese but i dont want to pay the ridiculous price for like a rosetta stone. Looking for a free program for the Mac to teach me to be able to read and speak Japanese. I also have a PC so i can do a program for either or. Learning via a website is not always the best way to learn a language. The best way to learn Japanese is through a variety of methods. You need to work on your grammar, listening, speaking, reading and writing. Its best to think of these as separate categories and focus on each specific category as these require different methods and techniques. Start by learning the basics through grammar. These books really helped me: • Shin Nihongo no Kiso I & II • Shin Nihongo no Kiso Japanese Kanji Workbook • A Course in Modern Japanese by The University of Nagoya Press • An Introduction to Modern Japanese by Osamu Mizutani & Nobuko Mizutani I agree with Pillbox. Finding a native speaker to teach you Japanese is the best way to go. Sadly in life there are no 'free lunches' and this person would probably not teach you the language for free (unless he/she is a partner). You can always lookup ads in social network sites and come to an agreement on prices. This is how i haggled the price for Italian lessons for example - it was not free but i got the best price so give it a go. No, never google translate. It always look stupid and even people who have only been studying for a short while can tell someone has used google translate. The best way to learn to speak japanese is obviously to get a native japanese person, an honest one. What i used was a book and an iPhone app. I forget what the book was called, lost it when i moved provinces. Anyways the app was called Human Japanese, there is a lite version too. It won't have nearly as much info as the full version would, but i found it helpful with getting started. But no, i don't know a free computer program that'll teach you to red, write an speak japanese. Although smart.fm will not teach you to speak Japanese (you need a native speaker for that) I find it to be the most valuable all-around resource to learn Japanese. It is free and can be fun.
