10 common English expressions used in daily conversation. LONG TIME NO SEE It's an English expression used as a greeting by people who have not seen each other for a while. Eg. you meet your old friend after many years seeing him you would greet him and say "HI! HOW ARE YOU LONG TIME NO SEE" TWENTY FOUR SEVEN Twenty four hours in a day seven days a week. Eg, Hospitals function 24/7 BEAT AROUND THE BUSH Deliberately not talking straight forward Eg. someone wants to tell you something but they are not sure how you would react... or how to say it. They might say things and try to make you guess or lead you to it yourself with phrases!!! So you tell them STOP BEATING AROUND THE BUSH and just get to the point. SICK AND TIRED You hate it!! You are fed up angry and bored because something unpleasant has been happening for too long e.g. I am sick and tired of trying to lose weight. BACK AND FORTH Backward and forward e.g. Peter have been running back and forth for his college admission. WHAT'S THE CATCH something sounds too good to be true-it means u suspect there is a hidden problem, which might make the situation not as good as it appears. e.g. Sam wants to sell his car for $500 only you would be thinking Hum!! what's the catch. GIVE ME A HAND Asking for help e.g. You are carrying many bags you would ask your friend "can you give me a hand". IT'S A SMALL WORLD-WHAT A SMALL WORLD Reaction to an unexpected coincidence e.g. You meet someone in a meeting who was also present in the seminar the previous day so you say "oh! what a small world "I met you yesterday in a seminar. COME ON Please Hurry Go faster e.g. Come on stop doing that. Come on I only have few minutess before I must go. Come on u can do it. FAT CHANCE Greater possibility-a sarcastic way of saying that there is no chance or a good chance of happening something e.g. There is a fat chance of our team wining as we performed really very well.
