As we mentioned at the top of this segment, behavioral questions can be extremely tough, and they are becoming more and more common in job interviews... MIKE That's right Jeff. So what that means is if you want to get an offer from your next interview, you need to know exactly what they are and how to answer them. JEFF A behavioral job interview question is based on the idea that your past performance is the best predictor of your future performance. In other words, the hiring manager wants you to relate what you did in past jobs or life situations to the job you are interviewing for in terms of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for success. MIKE Correct. Some examples of behavioral questions include: "Tell me about how you worked effectively under pressure", or "describe a decision you made that wasn't popular and how you implemented it" or "give an example of when you worked effectively with a team" JEFF Don't worry though! If the interviewer asked you to "give an example of when you worked effectively with a team", you could say that in your past role with the ABC Company, you managed a sales team consisting of 7 people that exceeded its annual goal of a 20% increase in sales which highlighted my ability to get the most of the people on my team, an ability which I believe would directly translate to the role of Sales Manager at the XYZ Company." JEFF See what he did there? He established the Situation, Task, Action and Result while focusing on a key strength that was valued by the XYZ Company and related to the job he was interviewing for.
