PREDICTIONS
Grammar: Future Predictions (will/won't)
Level: False Beginner. Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate (revision).
Movie time: 5.35
Approximate lesson time: 30-45 mins. (depending on discussion).
Lesson:
Students are given 5 predictions and must decide whether they are likely to come true within their lifetime.
Make sure students write only "yes" or "no".
In the second part of the video ("Say your predictions for the future") press pause after each title appears and ask various students around the class to give their predictions. Use the students' predictions to initiate a discussion. You might consider the following questions:
1. Petrol.
What energy sources do you think people will use instead of petrol? Why don't we use electric cars now?
2. Cash
What are the advantages of using credit cards? Do you think shops/cinemas/books/records will disappear?
3. Aliens
Do you believe aliens exist? Why/why not?
4. Moon
What country is most likely to send astronauts to the moon? Is it a waste of money?
5. Female President
Why do you think there has never been a female President of America? What about in your country?
INTERACTIVE ENGLISH GRAMMAR
The aim of these lessons is to allow teachers to drill basic grammar in interesting and realistic ways.
These are not self-study materials.
They have no audio content.
They are designed for teachers, whose role is to elicit basic grammar-focused controlled dialogue.
The lessons should be used to supplement other coursework (reading, writing, listening etc.).
The lessons are designed to be used for group teaching in classrooms with an interactive whiteboard, however they can easily be adapted for use in other contexts (individual lessons using an iPad, for example).
