A new lesson about advertising and marketing techniques that are used in the world to sell more products and services. The 6 techniques are - FALSE ADVERTISING, making the product or service look much better then it really is, often using models who are meant to demonstrate the effects of the product even though they have probably never used it themselves. CELEBRITY ENDORSMENTS - Using celebrities to promote a product or service even though they normally have nothing in common with the product at all apart from being paid to promote it. The knowledge that the general public are very easily influenced by fame and celebrity means that it is a very effective means of advertising. POPULARISATION - During the advertising of a product or service it is shown from the very beginning to be already extremely popular and in huge demand, creating the impression that you the consumer are missing out on something and are not part of the 'in' crowd and therefore building your want for a product because everyone else has it and you don't. This is most commonly used to promote anything involved in pop culture. FREE and BUY ONE GET ONE FREE - The word free is an extremely effective advertising tool as it leads the consumer to the assumption that he or she is in fact cheating the company selling the product and getting one over on them. In reality the price of the free product is carefully calculated and included in the price meaning the company supplying it still makes a profit and sells a lot more product then it otherwise would. The word FREE can also be replaced with the word SALE (although I forgot to mention it in the video). LIMITED EDITION - No manufactered product is ever limited if the manufactuer thinks it could sell more! This is only used to create a demand for the product that would otherwise probably not sell so well. The consumer may not need the product at all but the supposed rareity makes it much more desirable and therefore is much more likely to buy it. GIVE YOUR DETAILS FOR FREE INFORMATION/OFFERS - Giving your personal details away may indeed lead you to recieve some great offers and free info from companies but it is much more likely that you will start to recieve personally targeted advertising for the types of products people in your demographic would buy.
