This is a short introduction by Professor Tim Blackman (Pro Vice-Chancellor Research, Scholarship and Quality) to a programme of lectures called 'Science Matters'.
The programme of four lectures was delivered as part of the Engaging Opportunities project (http://www.open.ac.uk/engaging-opportunities) to 230 students from Milton Keynes and the surrounding area (http://www.open.ac.uk/blogs/per/?page_id=1082). The four lecturers are all based in the Research Centre for Physical and Environmental Sciences (CEPSAR) at The Open University.
The RCUK-funded 'Engaging opportunities' project involves a partnership between The Open University and the Denbigh Teaching School Alliance.
