For some the rapid advance of computers into our lives is something to be feared. We asked Professor Martyn Thomas whether this was rational, and what might be done. However this is no luddite rallying cry, instead Professor Thomas lays out a pragmatic course to welcome future innovations.
Martyn Thomas is an internationally recognised expert in software engineering who holds visiting professorships at three top Universities including the University of Oxford. Beyond his academic posts, Professor Thomas is often called upon to be an expert witness and also to advise Parliament on cyber security matters. Professor Thomas will deliver the six lectures of the newest Professorship over the 2015-16 Academic year. The series will examine the place off computing in modern society, and what we should hope will be its future. From pressing issues like cyber security threats to possible futures with driverless cars and intense automation, this series is hugely important and focuses on issues that affect the entire world.
