(HD) Eric Kandel (Nobelprize 2000) Lecture, Molecular genetic and cognitive studies in schizophrenia

Prof. Eric Kandel is a pioneer of research related to the molecular mechanisms of learning and memory. In 2000 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine. In 2012, the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Basel, Switzerland, conferred to Eric Kandel the privileges of an Honorary Doctorate. After the welcome address by Prof. Dominique de Quervain (Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience) and the laudation by Prof. Andreas Papassotiropoulos (Professor of Molecular Neuroscience), Prof. Kandel gave a lecture entitled "Mice, Men and Mental Illness: A Transgenic Mouse Model of the Cognitive And Negative Symptoms of Schizophrenia". Prof. Alexander Grob (Dean of the Faculty) and Prof. Antonio Loprieno (Rector of the University) handed over the diploma and closed the ceremony.
