KUSA - A program that gives students a chance to learn the ins and outs of Wall Street has been adopted by the Adams 12 School District, which is making it part of regular learning for all sixth graders. Donna O'Brien, social studies coordinator with the Adams 12 School District talked about the decision on 9NEWS at 6 a.m. In the Stock Market Experience, students use virtual money to make trades in real companies with the goal of seeing which team and school can get the most in return. O'Brien says her district chose the Experience because it matched up well with Colorado's mandate to increase personal finance lessons as part of overall K-12 student learning. "As a district, we decided to look at all the programs that were available...and the Stock Market Experience was a perfect fit for that," O'brien explained. "It fit all the standards, it fit all the grade level expectations for 6th grade, it emphasized technology, it emphasized economics learning, and vocabulary," she said. We've featured student "Stock Star" winners on the morning show in the past. To learn more about the Stock Market Experience, or to sign up, visit http://stockmarketexperience.org.
