We tend to think of speaking skills and listening skills as two separate strands of the syllabus, yet in one sense they belong together. Linguists have often questioned the sharp distinction between being a listener and being a speaker, and to show that we are active listeners, we need to speak.
In this webinar we discuss what good listeners do. We look at the repertoire of words and phrases they use to show that they are active, engaged and fully involved in the conversation, and not just there as passive participants. We look at ways of bringing the active listener into our teaching materials and activities.
