Hello my name is Joanna but you can call me 'Jo'.
I am a native British-English speaker, born and raised in the beautiful, beach-side city of Sydney, Australia. At present, I am living in Kathmandu, Nepal where I work as a volunteer.
As I enjoy learning languages, I have studied Italian, Spanish and, for the passed 2 years, the Nepali language.
I understand the frustration and challenges learning a language presents. I also understand that like any other skill, for example, learning an instrument or learning to draw or paint, with a positive attitude and the right direction, it is very possible!
As I love to write and to blog, more than any other language, I am passionate about English. It is a colorful and rich language, which connects people from every corner of the world. English is an invaluable skill, which will help you in all aspects of your life -- from your career to relationships.
I currently teach a variety of non-native English speakers with Nepalese and Tibetan origin, and occasionally also people of Japanese origin. My students range from illiterate (unable to read) to semi-fluent in ability.
Because no one student is the same, I always prepare for my classes with the individual student in mind. To help students to focus, apply and remember, I use various TESOL methods which I have personally found in my own study to be very effective. I also believe that for a student to benefit the most, teaching sessions should always be fun and interesting.
I am very excited at the opportunity to share my passion for the English language with you and assist you in your journey to learning and perfecting this life-skill.
