Teacher: Hello, Bill. What can I help you with?
Student: Do you have any tips to help me with gap fills in the listening section of the exam?
T: Yes, I do. First, make sure that you read everything before the audio begins. Pay attention to how many words and numbers you can use.
T: Next, quickly look at all of the information you have. This will give you clues about what goes into the gaps.
T: Then, for each gap, try to guess how many words or numbers should go there. What kind of word or words belong in the gap? Guess if it's a noun, verb, adjective, or adverb.
T: For verbs, ask yourself which tense is the missing word? Past, present, or future? For nouns, ask yourself if the missing word is singular or plural.
S: Will I have time to do all of this before the audio begins?
T: You will if you do it quickly. You have to use your time wisely. Instead of listening to directions, read ahead and make predictions.
T: When you've finished answering all of the questions in a section, don't keep listening to the audio. Go on to the next set of questions and make predictions.
S: Ok, got it. I'll make sure to practice my prediction skills before I take the test.
T: Super.
