In this short overview, Dr Sandra Gonzalez-Bailon discusses the main themes of her lecture in the OII's series of lectures aimed at undergraduates.
How do people use the Internet to engage in the political process? Do online interactions change the shape and dynamics of civic networks? How is the Internet affecting declining trends in civic participation? Is it really reinforcing more horizontal and democratic forms of communication?
This lecture will deal with these and related questions paying special attention to empirical research that analyses the impact of the Internet on informal politics.
