Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien headed into one of L.A.’s many beautiful canyons for an in-depth chat with Fender about his musical background, his influences and why he is inspired by nature. The longtime Fender Strat player also talked about the “genius” design of the instrument, which celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2014. “I have this fairly nutty theory, but I think all songs exist and you’ve just got to tap in there, and dial in the frequency to find it,” he said. “That’s what I feel about the Strat design. Like with great design, it’s always been there. It’s not forced. You just feel it. It feels like the Strat was plucked from the ether. It’s always been there. It just feels right.”
